ABOUT MUSEUMS IN FLORENCE
"FIRENZE COM'ERA" - Historical and Topographical Museum
Through paintings, prints and models the museum offers a rich visual history of how Florence changed from the Renaissance to the end of the XIX century. Next to the large reproduction of the famous Pianta della Catena (The Map of the Chain, 1470) is Stefano Buonsignori’s Topographical Map, the first one drawn scientifically. The twelve famous Lunettes by Giusto di Utens present an important overview of the Medici villas in the late XVI century. The XVIII century is documented by Zocchi in his fine Vedute, while the highlights of the XIX century section are the pictures of the Mercato Vecchio (Old Market) and the Jewish Ghetto before the demolition.
A new section created for the exhibit entitled The Origins of Florence illustrates the development of the Florentine area from the first settlements to the Roman era.
